Russian Systema
Is a contemporary fighting occurrence, that made it’s outbreak in the West during the mid 90’s, after the fallout of the Soviet Union, giving the completely unique alternative to what has been known as a martial art style or form of those days.
It derives it’s roots from Russian culture and tradition and various forms of fighting that throughout the ages were present on the wide territory of Russia.
That Slavic heritage was later processed by the soviet scientists and experts due to the need of military and police special units. For an example, a Russian machine engineer Alexey Ivanovich Kadochnikov, who served in a rocket unit of Russian land army, is a person who is responsible for development and research of biomechanics, that is the area which studies various aspects of human body functioning in the contexts of fighting.
During the time, with each new generation of teachers, the systema changed, but it’s essence remained the same:
- Unique psychological approach to problematics of fighting
- Unique perception of physical lawfulness in fighting
- Giving the significance to subjective feel over the objective technique
- Freedom of movement
Russian systema is a martial art that gives a freedom of exploiting the fighting to the limits of practitioner’s imagination and endurance. Trainings can be very relaxing, but as well a very high intensity.
It’s a perfect art for all of those who would like to learn about themselves, on which testifies the alternative name for systema (“Poznai sebya”- know yourself). In systema, everybody adjusts the training to himself, how much he can take and how far he is ready to go. Relaxed, without forcing and compulsion, you gradually get to the optimal level of physical and fighting conditioning.
The thing that is, according to most of the people, specific for systema is so-called “ballistic punches”. It’s a kind of extremely heavy and deep punches with bare fist from minimal distance , that have a potential of disabling even a very fit person if it’s struck by one of them, without knowing how to take the punch and deal with it, which is one of the specific things that is also practiced in systema…
